It's a description suiting their enthusiasm - the over 50s members are often at the North Street club three times a week.

The Keenagers extended their regular Monday session to include first-timers as part of the NSW Seniors Festival.

"We've done it a few times now, opening the doors for seniors week," president Terry Caldwell said.

"We make our usual sessions accessible and we have a come-and-try every Sunday.

"Offering a couple free sessions helps people see if they like it and we do get a few drop in."

Phil Oates from Wodonga planned to drop in to one of the sessions more than 15 years ago.

"After a hiatus of 15 years ... I came past last week and they were closed, but the cleaners were there and told me to come back," he said.

Mr Oates played a few games on Monday morning and enjoyed getting back into the sport.

"I used to play a lot in my youth and we had one at home for the kids," he said.

"It's a bit like riding a bike; I'm hoping it comes back."

Mr Caldwell said there were about 270 people linked to the Border club, about half being in the "Keenagers category.

"We like to say we're pretty keen," he said.

"The exercise and comradeship with the people who come is what I enjoy most.

"The flexibility of these sessions is really good too - you can pop in, play a few games and move on."

The Keenagers meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8.30am to midday.

Every year during NSW Seniors Festival, government, community and commercial organisations hold hundreds of events across the state.
