Richard Funston said it was hard to believe that Stefan Anatoli Kolisnyk thought it in any way reasonable to possess a prohibited pistol, for which he received a community corrections order in Albury Local Court in May.
But he was even more dismayed that Kolisnyk had breached this bond by going around in public armed with knives, one a flick-knife the Springdale Heights man said was for his "self-defence".
IN OTHER NEWS:
The 33-year-old Springdale Heights man was this week handed a jail sentence for breaching the order, but he will get to serve this in the community by way of an intensive corrections order.
Kolisnyk faced seven charge sequences. These included two breach of bonds imposed over the prohibited pistol in 2018 and an intimidation charge from 2019.
Kolisnyk pleaded guilty to all the fresh matters, which included driving with a low-range prescribed concentration of alcohol and possessing one gram of methamphetamine.
He had "an extensive criminal history".
The court was told that police were patrolling North Albury in the early hours of December 28 when they saw a silver BMW turn into a service station car wash.
Checks revealed the NSW registration number did not exist, then police discovered that a "C" on the plates had been coloured black to resemble the number "0". Kolisnyk "appeared nervous".
They then saw "a black item" hanging from his belt; he claimed the flick-knife was a mobile phone holder.
Kolisnyk also got a 12-month community corrections order, was fined $800 and lost his licence for eight months.
