The annual Elyne Mitchell Photo Story Competition has joined the festival program for the first time.
Named for the writer of the Silver Brumby series, the theme is The Gathering and entries must relate to the rural experience.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The bush festival will go ahead on April 2 to 5 despite the Upper Murray bushfires, which destroyed the Mitchell family homestead, Towong Hill Station.
The author's daughter Honor Auchinleck said her late mother had been excited by the annual celebration.
"Being a part of that rich tradition of High Country writing, it is fitting that a commemoration of Elyne's life and work now has its place with a photo story competition to be judged during the art and photography exhibition at the bush festival," Mrs Auchinleck said.
The competition is open to three age categories: under-15, under-18 and open.
Entrants must take inspiration from a photo and write 200 words to accompany the picture.
Entries are due by March 16, with more information available at bushfestival.com.au.
