It's official, Katy Perry will perform at a bushfire relief concert in Bright. The concert will take place next Wednesday and tickets will be distributed to fire-affected residents by councils and emergency services. IN OTHER NEWS: Residents will be bused in. In addition, tickets will be sold on ticketek. The Victorian government has welcomed the news, with Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Martin Pakula saying thousands of residents and emergency service personnel in bushfire-affected regions will have the chance to hear Perry in action. "I thank Katy for offering to put on this free show for communities that have been affected by bushfires," he said. "It will be incredibly exciting for many people who have had a really tough summer, and it recognises the outstanding efforts of our emergency services." Mr Pakula said the government had worked with the US performer to organise the one-off Alpine event after Perry had made her wishes known that she wanted to reach out to people affected by the summer's bushfires. Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said the high country was rebounding after a very trying summer and this concert would provide a tremendous boost to the community - including workers and businesses. Residents from the bushfire-affected town of Corryong will be bused to and from the Fight On performance at Pioneer Park on Wednesday, 11 March, which will follow the Brighter Days Festival from 6-8 March. Tickets to the performance will be allocated to bushfire-affected communities through local shires in the north east, and emergency services agencies. The bushfire concert is being supported by Visit Victoria, the ICC T20 World Cup, TEGDainty, 160over90 and the Brighter Days Festival. It will follow Perry's performance at the ICC T20 Women's World Cup final at the MCG on Sunday, 8 March - International Women's Day. The last time as big a spotlight was shone on Bright was when the Olympic torch passed through the town in 2000. The government has allocated more than $270 million to help Victorian communities recover and rebuild in the wake of the summer's bushfires. When announcing the news Perry said "as a native Southern Californian, I know firsthand the devastation of wildfire across my home communities, and was particularly [broken hearted] by the Australian bushfires."
