The talented right back has been plagued by a shoulder injury, which has prevented him from playing for virtually two full seasons.
Hughes has made his way back to Albury United after two years in the Murray United setup, off the back of an outstanding 2017 campaign at the Greens.
The 22-year-old hopes he's seen the worst of it.

"I've pretty much been off for two years and couldn't do anything with the shoulder," Hughes said.
"I had one year with them (Murray) and tried for a second, but couldn't continue on with the shoulder.
"I had surgery and I was out for eight weeks and it was then more than a year and had to be two years off.
"I'll see how this pre-season holds up, but I should be back for round one."
Hughes added it was a no-brainer to come back to the Greens.
"I couldn't really go to another club, it's always been Albury United," he said.
