The 27-year-old recruit fell upon the Border outfit by chance and is looking forward to his first season playing in Australia.
ALSO IN SPORT:
"I was in Cairns trying to get a job and met a guy who played for the Steamers in 2016," McCormick said.
"I drove down with him and hooked up with the club.
"It's a really good club, they've welcomed me with open arms.
"I've always wanted to play in Australia and have been trying to get over here for the last six years, but it just didn't work out.
"It's all come together nicely.
"It seems like the standard will be a good standard for me."
The SIRU competition gets underway on April 4.
