Coronavirus panic is rife on the Border with supermarket shelves of toilet paper and long-life goods rapidly emptying but this isn't the first time Albury and Wodonga have dealt with virus fears. A century ago, faced with the outbreak of the Spanish Flu, more drastic measures were taken with authorities closing the border between Albury in NSW and Wodonga in Victoria. In a history column first published in 2017, the-late Joe Wooding reflected on this time in the region's history and how residents coped.
