Anthony Hartshorn has been promoted to opener, sharing an 85-run stand with the swashbuckling Ash Borella in last Saturday's thumping of Lavington.
Interestingly, the 33-year-old plays a similar attacking role to Borella when in the lower grade, but is following strict instructions from first grade coach and older brother Tim, along with captain Brendan Simmons.
"My job is to let Ash do the damage and for me to hold my wicket for a while and make sure that 'Simmo' (Simmons), my brother and the other guys aren't batting at a stage where the ball's swinging around," he said.
"So if I get 20 and we're 0-50 or 0-60, I've done my job."
Hartshorn scored 20 from 34 balls in combination with Borella.
Left-handed Borella started the season at No.4 or 5, but moved back to his familiar opening position in December.
Premiership player Ben Paddle started as the Hoppers' opener, but he hasn't played in the past month, so Hartshorn will now play a vital role in his brother's first year of coaching the Hoppers.
"He's a gun cricketer, he's a far better cricketer than I'll ever be," Anthony said of Tim.
"He made a hundred this year after being in Japan for two weeks."
However, the younger sibling doesn't mind giving it to his brother as well.
"He's a left-arm orthodox spinner, but spinner's actually a derogatory term because he doesn't actually spin them, everyone thinks he does," he laughed.
Tim Hartshorn has represented the powerful Southern Zone where the siblings claimed four successive A grade titles with Batemans Bay.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Anthony might play his batting down, but there's no chance of downplaying his fielding, which is dynamic, snaring a run out against Lavington.
"(The batsman) hit one to his right in covers, he picked it up one hand and threw the stumps down from side-on," Simmons said.
