About 5pm on Tuesday a pipe burst on Burrows Road, cracking the bitumen and pushing water across the road leaving traffic in chaos.
Albury council chief executive Frank Zaknich said the cause of the damage was put down to weather conditions.
"Such as recent rainfall and lower ground temperatures following an extremely hot and dry summer causes the soil to move, resulting in pipe failure," he said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Contrary to initial concerns, there was very little impact on water supply to our customers. Isolation of the pumping main resulted in four properties losing supply. All are now restored.
"The water main has been repaired but the surface suffered significant damage, which we will repair. Our crews were on site very quickly and worked until late in the night in difficult conditions to repair the main and clear Burrows Road so it could be partially reopened on Wednesday."
