The 26-year-old suffered a nasty gash in his quadricep last Thursday after the angle grinder slipped from his grip while cutting material inside a roof.

Williams said he was to blame for the mishap.

"It was a bit of stupidity really," Williams said.

"The driver slipped on the grinder and got my leg.

"I'm a bit lucky that the injury is not as bad as it could have been.

"It tore through my quad muscle and it's going to take a while to heal.

"Hopefully I can be back playing as soon as round three - I'll see what happens.

"I'm not too sure until I see a physio next Wednesday."

Williams said he expected to be off work for a month.

"It happened last Thursday and I'll probably be off work for another three weeks," he said.

"I haven't really had a look at the cut but the doctor told me he had to staple it back together."

Williams grew up playing rugby league before making the switch to Australian rules as an 17-year-old.

He was lured out to Brock-Burrum through his connection with the Boulton family, with Saints netballer Linita Boulton his partner.

The elusive speedster has proved more than a handy find, playing in all four of the Saints' flags in the past seven-years.

Williams said he was eagerly anticipating the new season after suffering an upset loss against Osborne in last year's grand final.

The Saints have been so far relatively quite in the recruiting stakes after losing Nico Sedgwick and Willson Mack over the summer.

"I'm still looking forward to the season and will be raring to go once I recover," he said.

"We have lost 'Sedgie' which is obviously going to leave a big hole in our midfield.

"But it's good to see him have another crack at the O&M."
