A man is in hospital under police guard after allegedly crashing his car and fleeing, leaving his passenger trapped.
Albury police said about 7.30am a black BMW was travelling north on Wodonga Place, Albury, when it allegedly lost control while negotiating a roundabout and crashed into the back of a bus.
The driver fled on foot and was chased by members of the public, who detained the man until officers from Murray River Police District arrived.
The 38-year-old man was arrested and taken to Albury Hospital under police guard for injuries sustained in the crash.
The female passenger was freed after being left trapped in the vehicle with serious leg injuries.
She was treated at the scene, before also being taken to hospital with suspected fractured legs.
The bus driver and passengers were uninjured.
A crime scene was established, and inquiries are continuing.

An eyewitness has described waking to a large bang and screams after a car crashed into a bus on Wodonga Place, Albury about 7.30am.
Tony Love-linay said it appeared a car had crashed into the back of the bus.

A woman in her 40s has been taken to Albury Base Hospital after a bus and car crash at Wodonga Place in Albury.
An Ambulance NSW spokeswoman said the woman was in a stable but serious condition with leg and pelvic injuries.

She said the woman would be assessed for compound fractures and possibly flown to Melbourne by air ambulance, which has been deployed.
The spokeswoman said five ambulance crews had been deployed, but it appeared no one else had been seriously injured in the crash.
NSW Police and the Albury and Border Rescue Squad are also on scene. Wodonga Place is closed between Smollett and Dean Street.
The rear of the bus and front of the car have been extensively damaged and police are examining the contents of the boot, with sand over the road.
It comes as all Melbourne-bound lanes of the Hume Freeway have been closed after a truck rollover just after Baddaginnie.
