Prime7 News reporter Helen Ballard is in self isolation for 14 days in response to the coronavirus threat.
She arrived back in Australia last week before it became a legal requirement for those returning from overseas to spend two weeks in quarantine.
However, under Prime7's policy she was directed to stay away from work for that period.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Ballard, who has no COVID-19 symptoms, is producing while off-site and will not appear on camera until the self-imposed isolation ends.
News and current affairs director Darren Wick said the move which will see Melbourne's bulletin relayed to the Border was designed "to slow the spread of the virus and protect our teams and wider community".
"(It's meant) to ensure full resources are dedicated to delivering one quality metro news service per state during this crisis," he said.
"Regional news presenters and reporters will support the broader Nine News team....with limited reporters, operators and producers to remain..to continue breaking local news stories."
