The Border Mail conducted a player poll of coaches, on the condition of anonymity.
They were asked three questions 1) do you expect to play this year? 2) if you do play, how many rounds make a legitimate season and 3) do you think the season should be extended, if required?
Seven coaches elected to respond, while one politely declined to take part.
Two coaches didn't respond to a call or text.
All coaches naturally said the health of everyone associated with the game and general public was the most important aspect and, given the circumstances, they understand there are more pressing issues than football.
When quizzed about any play in 2020, three said there would be none, three said the season will start, at some stage, while one was uncertain.
As it stands, the O and M, like most leagues, is banned until May 31.
That takes in the first eight rounds, leaving a 10-week season, plus finals.
"I don't expect to play in the first half of the year, but it would surprise me if we didn't play at all," one coach said.
While the mentors were split on the season length, they were largely in agreeance on how many rounds the competition needs to comprise a genuine season.
Five were adamant a nine-week regular season, therefore playing each other once, is the best realistic scenario.
"I think anything over would be unfair, to work it has to be a nine or 18-week season (play each other twice)," one coach said.
Another coach indicated a full 18-round season was the only fair option, while another suggested a 14-16 week season.
The only topic which gained a unanimous vote was extending the season.
MORE CORONAVIRUS NEWS:
All seven agreed, albeit acknowledging they obviously hadn't spoken to the club.
"I think the majority of players would be for it, they just want to play footy," one said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
However, a handful believe it could only be extended for around three weeks.
"The middle of October would be the latest because it starts complicating other sports, like cricket, and there's holidays for people."
The poll's only certainty was the uncertainty.
