Euroa MP Steph Ryan told Parliament this week there was an urgent need for a stimulus package to address the crisis.

"Every state in Australia except Victoria has provided, or is actively putting together, a package of assistance to help businesses, seniors and households in the face of this pandemic," she said.

"We all know this is going to have a major impact on small businesses across my electorate, from those which are dependent on tourism to the retail sector to cafes, hairdressers and those who are dependent on trade or who are exposed to trade.

"I do not think we can afford to adopt a wait-and-see approach."

Businesses have reported losing thousands of dollars in orders through cancellations and are worried about the impact of the huge number of cancelled tourism events.

Ms Ryan said community sporting clubs also needed help to deal with the "unprecedented crisis".

"These clubs are the absolute bedrock of our local communities, and we need community at the moment more than ever," she said.

"I would urge the government to look at what it can do to assist those community sporting clubs, not just across my region but across the state, which help bind communities together. "

Over in the upper house, Regional Development Minister Jaclyn Symes said government agencies would manage issues as they arise.

She said Regional Development Victoria was working to help casuals who are out of work by connecting them with industries that need extra workers during the pandemic.

"We know that these are particularly difficult times for all Victorians, but often in times like this it can be more pronounced in country Victoria," she said.

" It is more important than ever that we band together, we back our farmers and regional communities and we continue to provide all of the support we can now and into the coming months."
