Arrogance personified
Nice to see that beacon of arrogance shining brightly from the halls of the Wodonga City Council. We are about to commit $2.7 million of ratepayer funds, together with $2.6 million from Victorian government funds (which was to facilitate a bushfire tourism and business fund) to building a gas hub at the Logic Centre. Why is the government grant not being used for which it was intended?

Once again, a decision is being made regardless of the concerns of the ratepayers of Wodonga. When did the ratepayers of Wodonga become a registered charity? We are about to 'gift' land for the sole purpose of building a gas hub for the exclusive rights of the businesses at the Logic Centre. The gas hub will then be leased by 'who knows', and will benefit the lessee and not the ratepayers. Why is the Wodonga Council getting involved in business decisions, when they are employed to solely look after roads, rates and rubbish?
No one is denying that we need to encourage more businesses to the area, but during these uncertain economic times, can we seriously consider the ramifications of building the gas hub, only for businesses who have previously shown interest in moving to Logic, not do so; due to the economic downturn?
We have no idea how COVID-19 will impact on business moving forward. With this in mind, should the council be proceeding with caution?
The ratepayers were held responsible for the 'wrong use of glue'on the pool tiles at the Waves swimming complex. Another $500,000 torn up.
The fact that the Wodonga Council are aware of ratepayer backlash, but are still even considering proceeding with this development, is arrogance personified and shows the complete lack of concern for ratepayers who are already struggling under the skyrocketing cost of rates.
The initial land purchase at Logic was exorbitantly expensive and yet this council continues to make unsound decisions with little or no regard for the ratepayers of this area. Time for the ratepayers to start asking questions and to stop thinking that this council has any idea of what they are doing. Remember, council elections are in October.
