The pursuit had to be called off, Albury Local Court has heard, because Ashton Kitson showed no signs of slowing down.

He routinely ignored stop and give way signs at intersections as he fled police along streets throughout North Albury and Lavington.

What made his offending worse, police said, was the fact the unemployed 25-year-old had never held a licence.

Kitson, who remains in jail, bail refused, faces three sets of charges over this and other incidents.

He has pleaded guilty to all matters, including charges of police pursuit, use unregistered vehicle, drive uninsured vehicle, never licensed person drive vehicle, drive conveyance without the consent of the owner and not reverse vehicle safely.

Magistrate Richard Funston decided against sentencing Kitson immediately.

Instead, he adjourned all charges to April 27 to allow for the preparation of a sentence assessment report.

The court was told that Kitson had a "lengthy" criminal history in NSW, mainly for property and traffic offences.

But he had also been convicted of serious offences - such as aggravated break and enter, being armed with intent to rob and firearm matters - and had served jail terms.

His latest offending was detected when a police crew was driving west in Ryan Road, North Albury, on January 11 just after 7am.

Kitson was heading towards them and after he passed, they did a U-turn with the intention of pulling him over.

After Kitson, who had a woman sitting beside him, pulled into Bellevue Street from David Street, they realised he was not going to stop so they initiated a pursuit.

Police said Kitson consistently drove above the speed limit and failed to give way or stop at several intersections.

The pursuit was called off after 3.26 kilometres.

Kitson was next seen in a church car park in North Albury about 5pm.

He tried to reverse quickly, so police parked their cars to block his escape.
