Milkin Kitchen is now delivering restaurant quality meals to Corowa, Rutherglen and Wahgunyah and extending take-home meals to the public from its base at The Albury Club.
Branded Milkin Eats, the changing menu includes the likes of Asian broth with duck dumplings; braised lamb and green olive ragu with housemade gnocchi; French cassoulet; and shredded beef and vegetable pastie with yoghurt pastry
Once coronavirus public health orders closed cafes and restaurants and banned social gatherings this month, Milkin Kitchen owners Matthieu and Erica Miller knew they had to adapt quickly.
Ms Miller, who is expecting the couple's third child within a month, said it had been an emotional whirlwind to reinvent their business.
As an event manager for Campbells Wines for eight years, Ms Miller said they knew how to play to their strengths.
"We already did frozen meals at The Albury Club for our member base," she said.
"We decided in a short space of time to extend that to the public.
"We already have a Cryovac machine and nutritional labelling and we were selling meals to Goldfields Greengrocer at Beechworth and Borella Butchery."
IN OTHER CORONAVIRUS NEWS:
Now working three days a week at Borella Butchery, Mr Miller (formerly sous chef at The Terrace, Patricia's Table Restaurant and Provenance) teams up with Douglas Elder (formerly head chef at Patricia's Table Restaurant) on Milkin Kitchen menus.
Ms Miller said she had quickly converted their website to automate the ordering process.
She said the menu would change weekly and feature staples and surprises.
"We wanted to keep the crowd favourites like lasagne and meatballs but we also wanted to keep on brand with dishes like coq au vin and cuttlefish ragu," Ms Miller said.
Ms Miller said despite price rises for ingredients they kept meals at $14 to $20.
"We just want to keep our chefs employed and our brand ticking over in people's minds," she said.
"We also offer beer and wine matches; James & Co Wines noticed a few people had ordered their sangiovese cabernet that we'd suggested to go with our duck dish!"
Meals (serve two) are delivered fresh or frozen.
