But as the COVID-19 pandemic stops sporting seasons in their tracks, Newton, like many others, is now playing the waiting game as to when her next time on court will be.
The Victorian Fury defender was told earlier this month the season would be postponed until June 30, with training also suspended until further notice.
The 2014 Toni Wilson Medallist said the next few months are looking vastly different to what she's used to.
"It's such a weird feeling and we all say the same thing, that netball's our life," Newton said.
"It's very strange because we (teammates) would see each other every day.
"It's just a really good culture and it's a weird feeling not seeing them."
Newton, who works as a substitute teacher and runs school coaching clinics, has now found herself with plenty of free time as she stays in her Melbourne apartment.

The Melbourne Vixens training partner is now dedicating her time to keeping as fit and active as she can, with a bit of help from the Victorian Institute of Sport.
"We've been very lucky that the VIS has provided us with some equipment," Newton said.
"Being in a fifth story apartment with no backyard, I was a bit worried about what I'd do.
"I was lucky enough to get some dumbbells, medicine balls, resistance bands, yoga mat, stuff like that.
"I wasn't sure what I'd be able to do aerobically apart from run, but then we got an email saying we could come and get a spin bike.
"That's really helping me stay motivated.
"I'm used to always training with people, so when it's just myself, I find it a bit harder."
Both the Suncorp Super Netball League and Australian Netball League are on hold for the time being, with the situation to be reviewed again in May.
Newton is coming off the back of a stellar 2019 season, captaining the Fury to a thrilling one goal grand final win against the NSW Waratahs to claim the flag.
O and M netball is at this stage on hold until May 31.
