Frenchman Thomas Romero doesn't intend to renew his visa for another year as the COVID-19 pandemic forced the season to be postponed until at least May 31.
However, getting out of the country is his biggest challenge.
The classy striker's current visa expires on April 13 and he would prefer to keep the option of a return up his sleeve for next season than take the risk that a shortened 2020 season will go ahead.
Romero can continue to work in Australia until his visa is no longer valid, but is unsure what to do from there if he is unable to leave before then.
He said he needs to register on a waiting list and await confirmation if he will be able to secure a flight to his homeland.

"It's not the fault of anybody, it's just a bit unlucky," Romero said.
"I just came back to play here two months ago and only played one game.
"If I can't take a flight, I may be able to have an overstay visa.
"I can't do anything about the situation, but for sure it's hard to be on the other side of the world."
Romero's family is split between France and Spain - two of the heaviest hit countries by the coronavirus.
"It's quite the same situation in France and Spain with quarantine. Everybody has to stay home, you can only go out to see the doctor or go to the supermarket," he said.
"All my family aren't working at the moment except for my mum who works at a hospital. She's going to work everyday.
"At the moment nobody has been impacted and hopefully they won't.
I can't do anything about the situation, but for sure it's hard to be on the other side of the world.
- Albury United striker Thomas Romero
"I call my mum almost everyday and check in on how everything is looking."
After starring for Wangaratta with more than 30 goals in 2019, Romero didn't even get a half of football in with the Greens after sustaining a groin injury in the early stages of the season opener against his former side last month.
The season came to a halt just two days later.
"For the moment I've been resting to recover well. I've been walking and trying to stay active," he said.
"I think one or two weeks more and I will be fine."
United has three French players in its squad.
Gauthier Robin, who signed for a second season at the club, is set to remain on the Border with no immediate implications with his visa, while Maxime Spazzini played in the Greens' reserve side in round one and is yet to officially confirm his movements.
