Drivers aged over 60 or those with compromised immune systems were temporarily put off from the Transport to Treatment service last month.
It is understood this meant most of the team.
In a letter to volunteers Cancer Council NSW said health and safety were the biggest priorities in making the change to the service amid the rapidly-evolving COVID-19 pandemic worldwide.
"For these reasons today we have made a decision that as of Monday, 23rd March, drivers at high risk of COVID-19 (people with suppressed immune systems, chronic health concerns and people over 60 or a carer for someone at high risk) will not be driving clients to treatment until further notice," it stated.

In its letter Cancer Council NSW staff acknowledged that the decision would mean reduced services for cancer patients for some time.
It was confident the service would resume as soon as it was safe.
"As an organisation we know the passion and connection many of you have with your local communities and we are looking at ways to keep you involved during this time," it stated.
"We also hope you will resume driving for Transport to Treatment as soon as it is safe to do so."
