Leslie was set to become the first Pigeon to reach the milestone in the club's home game against Wodonga Raiders on Easter Sunday.
He finished last year on 298 games and Yarrawonga was scheduled to play its first game last Saturday against Wangaratta Rovers.
"There's plenty of people taking financial knocks and although footy's a great game and sport brings a lot of people together, you don't feel like you're missing out as much when everyone else isn't playing," he said.
"Families and businesses are affected, so from my perspective (300 games), it's insignificant really."
The 34-year-old has always been a mature leader, so his philosophical approach is no surprise.

The O and M season is on hold until May 31, but there's genuine fears the year could be a write-off.
Motivation is always going to be an issue for some under those circumstances, but the professional Leslie is charging ahead with training in isolation.
"I'm still doing the exact same as I would be, just for the mind I suppose more than anything," he said.
"We're in a situation we've never been in before, so from a mental point of view you want to keep the brain ticking and free up as much stress as possible.
"A lot of people are in the same boat and we're being advised to be physically active."
The 2013 Morris medallist says the enforced playing break means he's feeling fresh as he targets 300 games.
"It's in the back of the mind, absolutely," he said.

"But my mind's probably the same as it was two years ago, if I think I can contribute at a fairly handy standard I'll continue as long as I can, but when I know time's up, I'll be the first to put my hand up and be happy to step aside."
Leslie, who has won two club best and fairests, finished third last year.
