Beer and his staff can't travel across the border, so he arranged transport for New Zealand import Hanger to head to Caulfield on Thursday night and stay at Brendan McCarthy's stables at the track before racing in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) on Saturday.

"He come through his run at Rosehill (March 28) in really good order and the horse that beat him at Rosehill won again on Wednesday, so it cements that form," Beer said.

"He's probably in the best shape I've seen him in. This is his first preparation for me and he's only had the three starts since coming over from New Zealand and he's improved with every run.

"If he can improve again from his last run, it puts him right in the money on Saturday."

Beer will be watching the race from home, but is glad he can still do what he loves as the racing industry works through the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I've still got 14 people in a job, including myself, so whatever measures we need to take to keep racing, we'll keep taking them," he said.

"It's remarkable the job everyone has done to keep racing going.

"To have a runner in a Group 3 is pretty awesome and he has a big ownership here in Albury too. I think if he hits the front at any stage they'll probably hear us from Caulfield anyway."

Teodore Nugent is booked for the ride.
