THE long-awaited start on the Baranduda Fields sporting hub is in sight after the federal government and Wodonga Council signed off on funding promised during last year's federal election campaign.

National Party Victorian Senator Bridget McKenzie announced a $10 million to kick-start the project which has been on the drawing board for more than five years.
"It's game-on," Senator McKenzie said.
"The Deed of Agreement has been signed with the council and the project is now officially underway.
"This visionary community project has been on the planning table for a very, very long time and there's no doubt this will be a game changer for our community.
"Despite the difficult and uncertain times brought about by the coronavirus pandemic the government is delivering its local infrastructure commitments.
"The project will deliver the first stage of a multi-functional regional sports and recreational precinct."

When completed Baranduda Fields will include a soccer pavilion, grass soccer fields, an Australian Rules oval, netball courts, car parks, access road, lighting, paths, landscaping, change rooms and amenities plus services to the site.
"It means the best sporting facilities between Melbourne and Sydney will be right here in Wodonga," Senator McKenzie said.
"This is an exciting next step for what is a regionally significant, multi-generational project in our city," she said.
"Detailed design for the initial infrastructure and pavilion are complete and we are well-positioned to deliver.
"The precinct will allow the city of Wodonga to showcase sport at a local, regional and state level, and will provide economic benefits from visitation of major sporting events."
