It was during this time that she was inspired to write and illustratrate a children's picture book featuring kookaburras.
'Kooka Kooka Haha' depicts the strength and spirit of Australian larrikinism through a riot of laughing kookaburras.
"I have written this book in recognition of the native Australian wildlife affected by bushfire," Rochelle said.
"Fire, drought and flooding rains will forever continue to challenge the Australian landscape, however I am constantly in awe and appreciation of nature's resilience and ability to bounce back."
Rochelle has felt at home in the Upper Murray since moving from Queensland in January last year with her husband Dominic, CEO of Corryong Health, and their two children.
For the past 13 years she has gained extensive creative skills in the areas of bridal couture, as a teacher of design and technology and more recently, from the launch of her handmade clothing business.
"For the past year I have been working from home on my hand-made clothing," she said.
"This came to a standstill for weeks after the bushfires, as we were focused on recovering from property damage and awaiting power and water to be restored. We needed time to return to regular home routines.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"During this time I had no access to my sewing machines, so in order to feed my creative needs I got the paints out while my kids were doing craft. "I painted 'Peter the kookaburra' and his character grew alongside the kids and their craft.
"Creating this book is a natural extension for me from designing and creating clothing. The process of editing and self publishing has been a new education for me."
Rochelle will be conducting a virtual book launch at 10am today, via her Facebook page www.facebook.com/rochelletonimadeforyou. The launch will include links to activities and educational resources for children which are aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia.
