The Mulwala product will be on the Australian team for the Tokyo 2020 Games, which will now be staged a year later due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After finishing fifth on Olympic debut at the Rio 2016 Games in double trap, Willett will contest the single trap having switched disciplines in the past two years with double trap not included at Tokyo.
Willett finished on top of the standings in the national qualification events which all but confirmed his place on the team, but he admitted it was great to get the formal acknowledgement.

"It's a great feeling and I'm stoked to be named in the team. Now it's officially named we can move forward and focus on the next stage," Willett said.
"The team is all good to go and we'll work towards the Games being 16 months out now.
"It's a unique situation I guess and it's probably never happened before with a team being announced that early.
"It's a good thing. I'll take the positives out of it and try to make the most of the opportunity."
With strict government travel restrictions in place, Willett doesn't expect to be competing any time soon.
However, the installation of a $250,000 Olympic standard range on the family property at Mulwala will certainly come in handy.
"It's an advantage that I can still train and the range is going to pay off significantly the next few months while the stage three lockdowns are still in place," Willett said.
"It sucks a bit that we won't get to compete overseas this year, but the health of the world is the priority at the moment."
Willett is one of 15 shooting athletes named in the Australian team, taking it to 71 selections overall.
