Tyrone Greystone, 21, was arrested on Wednesday after the relatives of a deceased woman watched on as he broke into her home.
The Wodonga Magistrates Court heard Greystone allegedly entered the woman's Wodonga property and took $180 in cash and jewellery.
A security system allowed her family to see the incident unfold in real time, and they contacted police.
The 21-year-old was arrested nearby.
Greystone had been wanted by police following multiple break-ins at businesses in Beechworth and Chiltern on March 8 and 9.
Three people targeted Gumtree Pies, Kathy Ellem Fine Art, Dalcheri and Goldfields Greengrocer.
Entry was forced through rear doors and separate amounts of cash of about $500, $1000, $950 and $300 stolen.
A further $6000 was taken from the Chiltern butchery and $2000 worth of tools taken from a nearby utility.
Police allege Greystone undertook the burglaries with Michael Pitman, who was recently jailed for five months over the incidents.

A third person is still wanted by police.
Prosecutors opposed Greystone's recent release application, with concerns he was an unacceptable risk of reoffending.
The 21-year-old sat with his head in his hands, crying, as Detective Leading Senior Constable Ian Deverell said there had been multiple calls between the trio on the day of the burglaries and in the early morning.
There was a gap while the offences occurred.
"It's not uncommon where offenders turn their phone off," he said.
"Their phones are off at the time of the burglaries."
He said Pitman made several references to Greystone during his police interview.
Lawyer Sally Wilson said her client was a youthful offender and would contest the allegations.
She raised concerns about delays to the case amid the pandemic.
Magistrate Ian Watkins said it was unclear how long it would take for the matter to progress, but said the court system was working on the issue daily.
"Cases could start to be heard sooner than later," he said.
"I am concerned over a relatively short period of time he's allegedly been involved in multiple and serious offences."
Greystone will return to the court on May 12 for a contest mention.
