The government has been guilty of abusing its powers to view our data in the past on a number of occasions. It has used data retention laws for minor crimes even though they were meant only for the use of security agencies investigating serious crimes.

It has used surveillance to abuse legal privilege of citizens who exposed criminal actions of ASIS. It has released of personal information about a person who criticised the government's Robo "debt". The information was given to journalists to vilify the person. It has raided Government House along with the opposition offices for sources of information merely because they were embarrassed the NBN. And let's not forget the government raids on Annika Smethurst and the offices of the ABC.

Some folk argue privacy does not matter because Google and Apple know all about us anyway. They might but they don't come seeking you out to arrest you.

If the government's track record isn't bad enough, then consider the Honourable Stuart Robert MP, the person in charge of the data base. This is a man who has accepted $50,000 gold Rolex watches from a Chinese businessman and travelled to China on personal business letting the Chinese think he was there in an official government capacity.

His own father said that he was unaware that his son had made him a director of a company which had been getting government contracts. To top it all off, when he was accused of over claiming internet expenses, he simply repaid $38,000. No worries.

Anzac Day has just passed, the soldiers fought for our freedoms but to my mind this government is continually taking them away. Trust this government? Not me, never. Consider your options carefully folks.

Well done Andrew 'Twiggy' Forrest for securing 10 million Chinese test kits for Australia. He has acted with respect and integrity and Australia, through his Minderoo foundation, has been richly rewarded.

Contrast this with some conservative federal politicians who have politicised the Covid19 crisis and are calling for an enquiry into its origins in China. In the middle of this worldwide crisis this can surely wait. One can only wonder if this is just a ploy to curry favour with a disfunctional American administration and a totally disfunctional President who is looking around for someone to blame for his own mistakes.

The response to this has understandably fired up China with threats to pull out of a lot of Australian trade. If this is carried through it will be devastating to the rural sector of the economy.

We have had drought, bushfires and now COVID-19. We certainly don't need this. I believe our Prime Minister has done well so far in this crisis. I just hope he takes notice of what Andrew Forrest has achieved and acts with respectful diplomacy.

No country likes to be threatened. The Chinese have suffered too and I am sure are learning from their mistakes. We all need to be united in our fight against this terrible crisis. Getting unduly political about this is the very last thing the world needs.
