Thousand Pound Wine Bar & Store has re-opened for takeaway meals and wine after its closure on March 23 due to COVID-19 restrictions.
With menus uploaded weekly to the Cookaborough online ordering platform, Thousand Pound Wine Bar is now offering pick-up meals on Friday and Saturday nights.
The head chef at hatted restaurant The Terrace since 2012, Simon Arkless and his team have put together a modern menu of bar snacks, share plates and hero main dishes for Thousand Pound Wine Bar since its inception in late 2016.
Now they will translate that to the new takeaway menu featuring the likes of Indigo Food Co cheese and cured meats, 10-hour cooked whole shoulder of lamb and panettone and rhubarb, bread and butter pudding.
"It's simple European-centric; comfort food with nothing too tricked up," Arkless said.
"We're also offering the full range of All Saints Estate wines to complement people's meals."
IN OTHER CORONAVIRUS NEWS:
Having closed The Terrace restaurant and Thousand Pound in line with COVID-19 public health orders, Arkless said they now awaited the Victorian government's update on hospitality restrictions, which was due next month.
NSW had already allowed cafes and restaurants to have 10 patrons at indoor venues.
Arkless said the federal government's JobKeeper scheme had allowed them to retain their restaurant staff.
"We've been getting a lot of painting and odd jobs done," he said.
"We have very high ceilings so for seven-and-a-half years, I've been saying, we've really got to get to that."
Co-owner Eliza Brown welcomed Thousand Pound Wine Bar's new takeaway service.
"It is exciting to see businesses pivoting in this extraordinary environment and we are keen to offer our loyal customers a taste of Thousand Pound Wine Bar at home," she said.
The wine bar, developed by Denis Lucey (Bottega, Melbourne and Luxsmith, Seddon) and All Saints Estate, St Leonards Vineyard and Mount Ophir Estate siblings, Eliza, Angela and Nick Brown, blurs the boundaries between city and country dining.
A new menu - starters, two mains and dessert - will be designed each Wednesday and uploaded to Cookaborough via the Thousand Pound Wine Bar website and its Facebook and Instagram pages.
Orders will be due by the following Wednesday at 5pm with collection of meals from the bar at 82 Main Street on Friday or Saturday between 3pm and 6pm.
Limited extra meals will be available for those who miss ordering, which this week closes on Thursday at 5pm.
