However, late on Wednesday night, via the 2AY Facebook page, it was announced the status quo would continue.
"We always listen to our loyal, devoted listeners and we will be making no changes to our line up," the message read.
"Kylie and Kev will continue to entertain Albury Wodonga, weekday mornings from 6am."
The change in thinking followed a backlash from listeners and Border politicians Bill Tilley and Justin Clancy expressing their dismay.
Ace chief executive Mark Taylor had said moving the duo was aimed at having talk through the day and aligning 2AY with other network stations, such as Wangaratta's 3NE, which also have Kate Meade and Sean Cullen as breakfast hosts.
"We were excited to offer an extra Ace duo to the market," Mr Taylor told The Border Mail on Thursday.
"However, we do always listen to feedback so there's no change for breakfast.
"It's lovely that people enjoy Kylie and Kev in the current time slot, so there they shall stay."
There was backlash from listeners and advertisers.
Among those was Mr Clancy, who wrote a joint letter with Mr Tilley to Ace flagging their dismay at the move.

"It's pleasing they've listened to the community and the community has spoken up," Mr Clancy said.
"It's so important to ensure we're getting our local media and that breakfast program is an important part of that."
Border tennis coach Phil Shanahan was also happy.
"These two are so good," he wrote on Facebook.
"Why would you ever contemplate changing a winning formula, (I) just love their early morning show."
