But for many parents, it was a long-awaited chance to see their children play and 'just be kids', away from the 'scary' virus.
Thomas' mum Christina Faulkner of Thurgoona, said during lockdown Thomas and his younger brother Samuel, had really missed being able to play on their favourite playground at Oddies Creek Park.
"Thomas has been talking about it non-stop since he found out we were going to be able to go back to the park," she said.
"We had a countdown until they were open.
"It's great to be able to get back outdoors and play again, parks really play such a huge part of a child's life, it was sad not being able to go."

Parks and playgrounds across Albury and the Southern NSW were reopened on Friday as a part of the state's loosening of coronavirus restrictions. Playgrounds remain closed in Victoria.
Mrs Faulkner said though young the boys understood people had been sick.
"It's been great to see the resilience in both of them, and their adaptive nature," Mrs Faulkner said.
Across the park, Kate Cochrane and her son Xander were enjoying a stress-free afternoon after weeks in lockdown.
"It's been tough, especially on Xander, he's missed having play dates, we don't have family here so we regularly catch up with friends," she said.
"And even school's been a bit different so he's been a little bit anxious about all the changes and the talk about the virus.
"It was really lovely to see him running around being a kid without a care in the world."
Albury Council's customer service centre in the Kiewa Street administration building will also reopen from Monday.
