Wodonga Raiders' coach Jarrod Hodgkin admits motivation has been a factor with his youthful outfit.

"We're all still desperate to play but, at the same time, there's going to come a point where they (league officials) are going to have to make a call," he said.

"Does it look like we're playing or not? It doesn't, let's just call it off.

"I'd say (by the) June long weekend (June 6-8) and some of the talk around has been that weekend we'll get a clearer picture of what's going on.

"It's going to be almighty frustrating if it gets to mid-July and we're building and building to play and it gets called off."

Corowa-Rutherglen president Graham Hosier also maintains the earlier the decision, the better.

"We need to have it for not only the players but everyone involved whether the season is going to be abandoned," he said.

It follows the release of AFL Victoria's "Returning to Small Outdoor Group Training" document, which imposes strict measures, such as social distancing.

And while the league is being guided by AFL Victoria, the O and M has the final call.

"The decision to play or not to play will be one for each individual league, not AFLNEB or AFL Victoria. If clubs and leagues can operate within the C19 protocols then that will be their decision," AFLNEB region general manager John O'Donohue said.

"AFLNEB are convening a meeting of leagues around the long weekend to consider all information available and consider what 2020 may or may not look like and if and when any announcements may be made.

"We have an understanding with the leagues that we would have a regional approach to season 2020 and I would expect similar approaches across the state, including metro."
