The Pleasant Hills CWA branch won the Past State President's Award for service to the community while president and publicity officer Lyn Jacobsen took out Wagga Daily Advertiser Publicity Officer's Award.

Members were pleased by their success but disappointed the honours couldn't be presented as usual at the annual state conference, which had to be cancelled because of COVID-19 restrictions.

"There's not very many of us ... so it was a huge effort," Mrs Jacobsen said.

In other awards, the Riverina group was highly commended for its cultural reports and Claire Barclay, representing the Glen-Mannus branch in Murray group, placed second in the cultural junior short story section, nine to 12 years.

The Pleasant Hills branch raised money through scone days and donated to causes such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the CWA disaster fund and the Hilltop Accommodation Centre.

One project led to a defibrillator being installed in their community.

An idea to make perhaps 50 pamper packs for women in drought-affected areas expanded thanks to community support and donations.

In the end about 680 packs were put together and delivered, with $6800 left over that was distributed to people in need via the CWA network.

Mrs Jacobsen said the many thank-you notes indicated how much recipients appreciated the packs.

"A couple of the letters we got back, I think it might have been their only Christmas present," she said.
