Organisers this week decided to proceed with the 132nd edition of the event, although there will be plenty of concessions to COVID-19.
Chairman Chris Pfeiffer said all public events would be cancelled and extra hygiene measures would apply.
"We think it's important to do it, it's important to maintain Rutherglen's presence out there," he said.
The September show will require at least 600 entries to break even, having drawn 1100 to 1200 in recent years.
Mr Pfeiffer said "even before COVID-19 hit us, we were talking about the impact of the bushfires on the show".

He said that may be reflected in winemakers not being able to afford to enter, with the fallout from smoke taint on this year's vintage reflected more likely to be reflected in next year's numbers.
One of the biggest challenges looming is attracting judges, with return quarantine in South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania set to mean adjudicators will only be from NSW and Victoria.
Ten full judges and six associates usually assess wines.
Social distancing will be required when judges convene, but Mr Pfeiffer said there was enough space to allow them to spread out during tasting.
They will wear gloves and handle their own glasses.
