Deer shooting is predominantly undertaken by men, who make up 96 per cent of the 41,415 people licenced to shoot the pests.
Alpine and surrounding areas are unsurprisingly home to high numbers of hunters, with 198 at Myrtleford, 110 in Beechworth, 58 in Bright and 45 at Porepunkah.
Police regularly patrol Alpine areas to ensure compliance with the law and target rogue hunters.
