League president Brendan I'Anson said it was crucial a junior competition got off the ground with a north and south conference round robin series the most likely scenario.
The top two sides would then cross over and play semi-finals and a final.
"It's fantastic news," I'Anson said.
"The league takes a lot of pride in its juniors and this is a big step forward.
"At this stage we don't know what format it will be played but we have a meeting tonight (Wednesday) and it will be discussed there."
The Tallangatta and District league is also desperate to get a junior competition off the ground in some capacity with senior football in serious doubt.
Junior netball is also firmly on the radar of both competitions.
