Alex Shain decided to take her dogs for a walk on the Victorian side of the weir because she thought it would be safer than the NSW side where more than 80 syringes were found near The Pines earlier this week.
Miss Shain said she was disgusted and concerned when she came across more than 15 needles in the water and on the banks.
"I felt dirty to be honest, I had a can of drink so I emptied it and put the needles in that," she said.
"I walked a few hundred metres trying to clean up what I could.
"It felt yuck but I'd rather I pick them up safely than a little child picks it up."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Miss Shain said she doesn't believe the needles washed ashore, but instead believes they were left there by someone.
She said they appeared to be in easy to access areas, near barbecues and tracks.
Miss Shain said some of the syringes were five metres up the bank of the river, and near the remains of what looked to be fire crackers. She said it looked like they could have been left by people having parties.
"I was only out there on Mother's Day with my four-and-a-half year old playing with her on the shoreline," she said.
"It's a big eye opener, it feels dirty.
"It's such a shame, it's a beautiful spot... contaminated."
