Murray River Police District Commander Acting Superintendent Owen Hill said roadside breath testing is back and police will be visible this weekend.
"With the return of proactive stationary testing operations, the community should expect to see us out and about performing random breath and drug testing," he said.
"We understand members of the public are eager to explore and stretch their legs after a tough start to the year, and we need to ensure everyone is doing the right thing on our roads and in our licensed venues."
Superintendent Hill said Operation Pariac is underway in the police district and is a high-visibility operation aiming to ensure compliance with new public health order conditions which came into effect this week in licensed premises.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The message from police to the public this weekend is to "stay safe" and support local business.
"The venues and patrons have responsibilities to ensure we have a COVID safe environment, just so we can ensure much-needed tourism dollars are injected back into our local towns," he said.
Police are also reminding the community to stay safe on the roads with the commencement of Operation Stay Alert from midnight Friday.
The operation targets speeding, drink and drug driving, driver distractions and seatbelt offences, and will run all long weekend.
"This operation coincides with the reintroduction of the stationary breath tests and double demerits will be in place throughout the operation," he said.
