Works on the new $1.5 million multi-purpose building will start as early as September at the Holbrook Sporting Complex with $700,000 of federal funding announced on Friday by Farrer MP Sussan Ley.

Ms Ley said $8.82 million will be shared across six communities as part of the Building Better Regions Fund, unlocking $19.8 million in regional development projects.

As well as $700,000 for the Holbrook Sporting Complex, other projects given the cash to get off the ground include $982,602 for a new electronic watering system at the Corowa Golf Club and $250,000 towards the $500,000 upgrade of the kitchen and bathroom facilities at the Finley Returned Soldiers Club.

"These game changing projects will help ensure our region remains vibrant and strong and I know this announcement will boost both morale and prosperity after a really tough few years for many people across Farrer," she said.

The dilapidated Holbrook building will be demolished to make way for new, more inclusive, change rooms, canteen and function space with the rest of the cost coming from Greater Hume Shire, the NSW government and more than $90,000 raised from the clubs.

Holbrook Sporting Complex chair Russell Parker said for the football and cricket clubs, "excited would be an understatement".

"This has been a long time coming and when we got notification this morning we were just over the moon," he said.

"This has been a 15 year project, it was started by other people and has been a process that has been arduous at times, but the end result is just compensation for all the hard work.

"The new building will be a multi-purpose space that will cater for a multitude of sports, and most importantly include female bathrooms and change rooms which we haven't had before.

"And that has been a real push for our community for a very long time so we are over the moon this funding will allow us to incorporate everybody.

"It really is the cherry on top for the facilities here, we had the upgraded lights, new netball courts and ground funding and now a new building."

Greater Hume mayor Heather Wilton said the works will replace the "very outdated facility".

"The current building is basic and from the middle of last century," she said.

"They just do not comply in any respect in terms of male and female change rooms, people with disabilities, they just don't meet any of those sort of requirements."

Ms Ley said sporting clubs in country towns are the "heart and soul of community".

"We know these club rooms are where people come for big, small and sometimes sad events but it is a bringing together, it all happens here and this is a fantastic announcement for Holbrook," she said.

The funding is part of the latest round of the Building Better Regions Fund.
