During COVID-19 restrictions the public health provider continued to undertake emergency service but 'category one' elective surgeries were done at Albury Wodonga Private Hospital.

Last month Victoria's Health Minister Jenny Mikakos said the government would be working with public and private hospitals on re-introducing category two and three elective surgeries.

These include IVF treatments, post-cancer reconstructions, eye procedures, endoscopies and colonoscopies, and joint replacements.

On Friday, AWH chief executive Michael Kalimnios said there would be a staged return of elective surgery and dental services.

"There will be a gradual return to elective surgery activity at both the Albury and Wodonga campuses and our dental clinic has commenced seeing patients again," he said.

"However the emphasis will remain on keeping our patients and staff safe."

Mr Kalimnios said the strict guidelines were in place at the dental clinic to ensure social distancing and infection control requirements were met.

"As the entrance doors remain locked, patients can only gain access for treatment if they have an appointment," Mr Kalimnios said.

"We are also advising patients that they must attend appointments on their own or for children's appointments only one parent can be present.

Additionally sections of the waiting area will remain closed and appointments will be staggered to assist with social distancing.

"Appointments bookings are subject to a COVID-19 risk screen."

Mr Kalimnios thanked Ramsay Health, which operates Albury Wodonga Private Hospital, for its elective surgery support during coronavirus restrictions.
