If the season does go ahead in the face of COVID-19 restrictions, play must start on July 4 to allow enough time for a 13-week season.
AFL North East Border announced on Thursday that no decision will be made on whether the season starts until June 22, when the Victorian Government is expected to outline its stance on restrictions.
The lack of crowds and strict COVID-19 protocols are the league's biggest issues.
However, the season doesn't necessarily have to finish by the end of September.
