A Riverina doctor has urged people not to avoid seeking emergency medical help because of COVID-19.

Lenert Bruce, of Murrumbidge Local Health District, said emergency departments across the region were open and safe and there was no reason for people to stay away if they were unwell and had significant health issues.
"We have noticed a decrease in stroke-related presentations, so there are some concerns that patients with early symptoms of stroke are not seeking emergency care," Dr Bruce said.
As of Friday morning, 10,896 people had been tested for coronavirus in the Murrumbidgee region and the number of COVID-19 positive patients remained at 45. This figure has not changed since mid-April.
There are 43 recovered cases and presently no hospitalisations.

Murrumbidgee Local Health District said no testing would be conducted over the long weekend.
Anyone who felt unwell was invited to call the Murrumbidgee COVID hotline on 1800 831 099 to book an appointment.
The health service continues to advise people to practise physical distancing and good hand hygiene.
