While the league requires clarity from the Victorian government on further easing of restrictions, set to be revealed on June 22, Barrett is hopeful it will boost the Ovens and Murray's chances of playing a shortened season.
"We've obviously got both sides of the border to consider," Barrett said.
"There will be further announcements on potential easing of restrictions from the Victorian government on June 22, so we're working towards that date.
"Obviously we're still keen to explore the possibility of getting a season up and that's our priority, but we've got to take into consideration the restrictions that are imposed and what that looks like in terms of how we run a competition this year.

"It's a really positive step and hopefully things continue to go that way and we end up in a position where we can get back to playing community sport, football and netball in particular."
The NSW government announcement on Wednesday also delivered news on venues.
Food and beverage stalls at sports facilities will be permitted to operate, as long as no more than 50 patrons are inside them at any one time, which should be manageable for all 10 clubs.
"It needs to be feasible for all clubs to run a match day and we're certainly eager to find out what those easing of restrictions will look like from the Victorian government," Barrett added.
"Obviously we're a cross border competition and we'd certainly want all clubs to facilitate their match days."
North Albury president Tony Burns is also eagerly awaiting an update on Victorian restrictions before getting his hopes up.
"It might be good for the NSW boys further north, but at the moment we're governed by Victoria," Burns said.
"The boys have been back training, obviously on different nights in different groups, but it's good for them to be back around their mates again getting involved around the club.
"The sooner everyone knows the better."
