Police have confirmed a 64-year-old Wodonga man, who was the driver of the vintage Holden and his passenger, a 77-year-old Guildford man died at the scene.
Police believe the Nissan Navara ran into the back of the vintage Holden vehicle on Greta Road this morning about 10am.
Greta Road was closed for several hours while specialist police from Melbourne arrived to investigate.
Greta Road is now open to traffic.
Anyone driving in the vicinity around the time of the collision who may have dash cam footage or witnessed the driving of the two vehicles are asked to contact Wangaratta Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
EARLIER:
Two people are dead and two more have been taken to hospital after a two-car crash in Laceby, near Wangaratta, on Saturday morning.
Victoria Police said investigators believe two cars collided near the intersection of Greta Road and Brian Higgins Drive about 10am.
Police and paramedics attended but two people died at the scene.

The gender, age and identities of the two deceased have not been revealed.
A woman and child were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The Major Collision Investigation Unit have been called to determine the circumstances of the double fatality.
