Both health services attributed the low case numbers to the affect of COVID-19 measures such as social distancing, good hand hygiene and staying home if unwell.
Albury Wodonga Health infection control consultant Leisa Bridges said January and February saw more influenza cases than other years but then came a drop that seemed to coincide with coronavirus restrictions.
"We are seeing lower than normal averages to what we've seen other years, even into June so far at the moment," she said.
"Viruses, as even with COVID, the less that we move, the less likely they are to move as well.
"The increasing frequency of hand washing, cleaning, just all those general good infection control measures seem to have made a big impact, potentially on COVID but also on influenza as well."
MORE CORONAVIRUS NEWS:
Murrumbidgee Local Health District director of public health Tracey Oakman said a high uptake in the flu vaccine might also have been a factor.
"All of May we actually had no influenza notifications, which is extraordinary, and we've only had very few presentations to our EDs with flu," she said.
"Sometimes the flu season starts early; two years ago we'd started to see a significant peak and we'd probably seen about 100 cases in May, but other years it starts a little bit later.
"It could be just a late onset season, but it is really low compared to lots of years."
IN OTHER NEWS:
The health representatives encouraged people to continue washing their hands well, keep cleaning, cough and sneeze into their elbows and be tested if they have symptoms.
"They're all good, simple measures to keep us all safe regardless of where we're going and what we're doing," Mrs Bridges said.
