A primary school aged boy who was hit by a garbage truck has been released from hospital nearly five weeks after the incident.

He was transported to the Royal Children's Hospital with a range of serious injuries.
He was discharged from the hospital on Friday.
His mother, Rhiannon Gannon, said he wouldn't have any long-term issues but still needed to undergo further treatment including plastic surgery.

"He's doing really well," she said.
"We've been really lucky.
"He will have no brain deficiencies, nothing, just some scars on his back which some surgeons can fix down the track."
Those nearby had rushed over to the Wodonga Primary School student immediately after the incident to help him.
He underwent several surgeries in hospital.
"To go from fighting for his life to where he is today, he's come through with flying colours," his mother said.
"He's kicking goals."
