Riverina Police District Inspector Adrian Telfer urged people to come forward if they have seen or experienced what is believed to be a man looking through windows or doors into personal dwellings.
"We are acting on a number of reports, about three or four at this stage, over the later parts of May and early parts of June," he said.
"The incidents have been particularly around Mount Austin and Turvey Park, but could happen anywhere in the greater Wagga city."
Police believe the offender has been jumping people's fences in order to gain access to backyards and the sides of homes, according to Inspector Telfer, who described the offence as "quite confronting" for those involved.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Inspector Telfer added that all privacy breaches and threats of this nature should be reported.
"Particularly in relation to this incident, this is violating a sense of privacy, so nothing is too small to report," he said.
"The most important thing is to ensure your own safety first and foremost, then the second thing is to call the police, because that is what we are here for.
"We take this very seriously."
Inspector Telfer said police were unable to provide a description or approximate age of the suspect, but any and all accounts of a similar nature will be noted and looked into.
