On Tuesday, the Woolworths Group announced plans to create an automated regional distribution centre and semi-automated distribution centre in Sydney.
Once built the facilities will replace two NSW operations in Minchinbury, Yennora and one Victorian site in Mulgrave. Currently about 1350 people are employed at the three warehouses, but only 650 will be employed at the new automated facilities.
A Woolworths spokesman said the sites won't start operating until 2023 or 2024 and would not have any affect on the Barnawartha site. The Barnawartha site is currently not automated and has been operating for 15 years.
"Barnawartha is a key part of our network and will continue to service stores across NSW and Victoria," he said.
"We're proud to provide employment to around 450 local team members at Barnawartha."
