Winton's marquee Supercars event will go ahead next month (July 18-19) spectator-free following a spike in Victorian coronavirus cases in metropolitan areas, extending the state of emergency beyond the scheduled weekend.

However, the revised ASBK calendar has seen the Winton round shifted to September 11-13, which gives the venue a chance of welcoming back fans if the situation improves in the next two months.

Winton Motor Raceway CEO Chris Lewis-Williams said he was excited to see ASBK back.

"ASBK is one of our key events for the year, and we are pleased and excited to have Australia's best motorcycle racers back at Winton Raceway," he said.

"I would hope we will be able to have spectators cheering over the fence and it will be another draw card for North East Victoria, bringing people up the road enjoying the region in September under clear blue skies.

"We have made significant upgrades to the circuit over the past 12 months to increase rider safety and hopefully provide fans even better action on track."

Phillip Island hosted the ASBK series opener way back in February and will kick-start the season again on July 25.

"ASBK has a long proud history at Winton Motor Raceway and we are ecstatic that this continues in 2020," ASBK sporting director Simon Maas said.

"Winton is a circuit the riders of ASBK know well, teams have recently held private test sessions there, and we are keen to get back on track."

"It is always exciting to head back to Winton and we hope by then we will be able to welcome back northern Victoria race fans."

Motorcycling Australia CEO Peter Doyle said it's been a testing time, but he can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

An ASBK COVID-Safe championship plan has been developed with the assistance of Victorian government authorities to ensure a safe resumption.

"We know how important regional Victoria tourism is and we are pleased that we will be able to play our part in boosting Northern Victoria tourism with the return of ASBK to Winton," Doyle said.

Wakefield Park has been locked in for round four in October, round five is still to be confirmed, before the season wraps up at The Bend Motorsport Park, South Australia, in November.

It is hoped ticket sales will be available for round three at Winton from September 1, but will be dependent on government regulations at the time.
