Witnesses in the murder trial of Phillip Dunn will prerecord their evidence in Wangaratta Supreme Court next month, before a trial is possibly held by the end of the year.

The 60-year-old appeared in court via video link from custody on Thursday.
Trials will resume in the Supreme Court next month, after stopping due to the coronavirus pandemic, but will only take place in three specially designated courtrooms in Melbourne.

Three witnesses in the Dunn trial cannot make it to Melbourne, so Justice Michael Croucher and legal counsel will travel to Wangaratta in July so evidence can be prerecorded and played for a jury at a later date.
Justice Croucher said with other trials already booked in, the trial could not start immediately after that process.
He said it could possibly be held by the end of the year, "but I don't really know".
