Izzac James Williams could at first be seen getting "aggressive" with the driver and a few minutes later "was observed striking the driver".
Williams, Albury Local Court has heard, wanted to get away because he was carrying two concealed weapons, along with cannabis and methamphetamine.

The car then got stuck in traffic at the intersection of Union Road and Mate Street, so Williams got out and ran off.
The officers gave chase, on foot also, and eventually Williams stopped, before turning and facing them.
Police had initially decided to follow Williams after seeing him in the car in Dick Road, Lavington, on February 6 about 10.30am, as he had had outstanding warrants connected to an incident from January that led to charges of robbery in company and aggravated assault in company with intent to take or drive a motor vehicle.
He had been seen "bending over towards the footwell" of the front passenger seat.
When Williams gave up on running away, one of the officers - fearing "a violent confrontation was imminent" - discharged his electronic Taser weapon at the 24-year-old, who complied with a direction to lie on the ground before being handcuffed.
This was when the police found the two unusual weapons on Williams.
Inside his backpack was a brass cylinder, inside which was a steel rod with a pointed tip, and a large metal screw to which a type of soldering iron was attached.
The weapons, Williams said, were "for protection". Police said Williams explained how "people were after him".
They then interviewed him over the incident from several weeks' earlier.
"I note," defence lawyer Bronte Winn said, "he has been bail refused on this and a related matter for a considerable period of time (since February 20)."
Williams, of Lavington, pleaded guilty to two counts of custody of an offensive implement and two of possessing a prohibited drug.
He was jailed for one month and fined $700.
